6 States in One Day.

On Wednesday, we all (both tours) left Charlotte for more training in New Jersey. Before leaving North Carolina, I started racking up points for the scavenger hunt my friends created. I met Monte from Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, points for a B-List celeb and for taking a picture with him (though my male coworkers think he is D-List, I argued my to get my points).

We had to fly in to Philly and drive an hour to Robbinsville, NJ (don’t worry, I had never heard of it either). About 20 minutes from Princeton and hour from Philadelphia and Newark. AKA in the middle of NOWHERE.

After a few days of training, we left the Garden State heading to Roanoke, VA. Most of the route looked the same, until we reached the mountains. Providing some beautiful views along the 6+ hour drive.

Roanoke far exceeded our expectations. It was a great place for the four of us to say goodbye and good luck, and one of the best places I’ve ever people watched. Just a hodge podge of people. I’d like to thank them for providing us a lot of laughs.

Our cabbies Sheila and Ben were among the greatest characters we met. Sheila arrived complete with a military-esque almost buzz cut and sleeveless polo. She pointed out which bars were great for “teeny boppers” and telling us about the star that lights up on the mountain. She was a great lady. At 2am we were fortunate enough to meet Ben, Sheila’s husband. Ben told us the story of how he was married and left his wife to marry Sheila. As you can imagine, we all stayed in the hotel parking lot, chatting with Ben to get each and every detail. He left us with one bit of advice: marry your best friend.

We woke up, said our goodbyes and tour two (my tour) headed for Knoxville, TN.

Turns out, my travel partner (who went to the University of Tennessee) is also a great tour guide. We checked out the UT campus, and I giggled/applauded/admired Peyton Manning Pass. How clever. It could have been Peyton Manning road/boulevard/street BUT he is a QB so it’s pass. Loved it.

Tomorrow we head to NOLA, hoping that Hurricane Isaac can hold off for a few days so we don’t have to worry about the weather as we drive in or out of the area. We’ll be in Houston Tuesday-Thursday then on to Dallas. Hard to believe that by this time next week we will have three events under our belts.
